YOUR HOME

One Mess at a Time

Spending an entire day organizing your home isn't a realistic or desirable option for many of us but getting organized can be simple if you take it one mess, or habit, at a time:

  • Start by paying attention to things that really bug you. These are the things that you tell yourself, "Someday I will organize this," but you just never get to it.
  • Make yourself a "Pain in the Butt" list of 50 things that annoy you on a regular basis. This can be anything from the piles of paper on your kitchen counter to never being able to find your keys when you need them. Take a minute to write them down.
  • Now, think about finding at least one solution for each annoyance. If you get rid of one annoyance each week you will be well on your way to living a simpler life!

YOUR OFFICE

8 Steps to an Organized Desk

Take some time to re-organize your desk this month using these eight simple steps:

  1. Remove everything from your desktop.
  2. Place your phone on your left if you're right handed and on the right if you're left handed.
  3. Place a notebook by the phone for notes and messages.
  4. Keep only office supplies that you use daily in your desk drawer. Extras can be kept in a separate cabinet.
  5. Files you use daily or weekly are kept in the desk file drawer. Files accessed monthly should be moved to another file cabinet and yearly files should be archived.
  6. Set up a vertical desktop file system for action items. Sort your active paperwork into it: To Read, To Respond, To Phone, To Pay, and Errands. Once the action is complete, file or toss the paper.
  7. Keep your desk surface clear of everything except essentials and projects you are currently working on.
  8. Take ten minutes at the end of each day to clear your desk and make a top 5 "must do" list for the next day.

Valentines Day Ideas

A few years ago I was treated to a very special surprise Valentines Day. It was so well planned that even I was amazed at the organizational skill that went into it!  From a candlight dinner to a scavenger hunt for chocolates and little notes - the occasion was truly special because of the thought and consideration that went into planning it.

This Valentines Day, whether you are married or single, use your imagination and maybe some items you already have on hand to create a memorable occasion.  For some fun and creative ideas, check out www.theromantic.com to help spark your own ideas on how to make this Valentines Day extra special!

As we do love and justice in the world, we seldom know the true influence of our actions either in the short term or over the years. The truth is that often when we feel most discouraged from a seeming lack of change around us, what we have done may already be working for good in ways we never imagine.
