January is GO Month!

In honor of NAPO’s Get Organized Month, here are some of my favorite tips to help you save time throughout the year:

  1. Find a Place to Start - When it comes to running, they say 50% of running is putting on your shoes and getting out the door. With organizing this means picking one corner or drawer or cupboard and starting there. Once you get started it is a lot easier to keep going.
  2. Clear the Clutter - Move anything you are not currently using out of the way so you have quick access to the things you do use.
  3. No More Excuses - If you say you are going to do something, even if it is only to yourself, keep your promise. Making excuses can often take more energy than actually doing it.
  4. Make a STOP DOING list - In order to do more of the things you really want to do, think about what you need to stop doing in order to make it happen.
  5. Give yourself a Break - Set aside some time for you. When you try to do too much, you set yourself up to fail. Taking the occasional break helps you to focus and leaves you feeling ready to take on the next task.

OFFICE

Tips for the Office

When it comes to the workplace, saving time also means saving money. Streamlining your work day is essential so here are a few tips that will help you save both time and money in the new year:

  1. Jump Start your Day – Make a conscious choice about how you would like your day to unfold, then work towards making it a reality.
  2. Eat Your Frogs First - Do the ugliest or least desireable task on your list first. That way the rest of your day will seem like a piece of cake!
  3. Turn off the Technology – Check email less often and set your phone to quiet mode while you are working. Let others know that you will be checking messages and responding within a certain timeline unless it is urgent.
  4. Do One Thing - Multi-tasking does not work. Focus your energy on one thing at a time.
  5. Create a Pain in the Butt list - This is a list of things that annoy you on a daily basis (but you put up with) like a squeaky chair or constantly searching for lost items. Next to each item, list a way you can fix the problem. Work on one each day and soon those little annoyances will be gone!

Courage doesn't always roar.
Sometimes courage is the tiny voice at the end
of the day that says, "I will try again tomorrow".
